  • He starts caring about what he puts in his body

  • He achieve Type 2 diabetes remission

The challenge…

Nadeem described being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes as "a wake-up call." Here he tells us how our delivery of the NHS Low Calories Diet Programme has transformed his lifestyle and put his diabetes into remission.

"Being a truck driver for over 20 years, my work life has consisted of sitting down for more than 70 hours a week, every week.

Because of this, my health has been hard to manage and consequently so too has my weight. I was eating a lot of sugary sweets and carbohydrates during the long journeys because they were convenient.

When I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes it was a wakeup call. I felt disheartened and demoralised, but more than this – I felt scared. I lost my mother to Type 2 diabetes so, now as a parent myself, I was worried I was heading down the same path as her."

Our support…

"I joined the NHS Low Calorie Diet programme because my health was getting worse, and I needed guidance. I did not feel able to manage my weight without help so I was referred by my GP and a nurse recommended I joined this programme.

At first, I was sceptical. There are a lot of weight loss products on the market, and I didn’t know if this would truly work for me. However, because this programme is backed by the NHS, I felt more at ease giving it a go.

Frankly, the products surprised me! For a weight loss food, the flavour was a lot better than I expected. I began to really care what I was putting in my body. The guilt and shame of eating comfort food began to disappear, which is thanks to the products.

I did find the different phases a little tricky, but I had expected to – I needed to drastically change my lifestyle. For me, the first two weeks were the hardest.

Once I overcame this, it was a walk in the park. It was all about consistency and keeping my goals in mind. I lost two and a half stone in the first three months which was astonishing for me!

What happened…

"My lifestyle has absolutely been changed for the better. My life has a new structure now – new food habits, new activities, and new shopping habits.

The programme has radically changed my life for the better. It has altered my eating habits and my mental state.

I am currently in remission for my Type 2 diabetes, which motivates me to keep working hard and following the programme.

I am only human, so I still have the odd day where I stumble. But having a strong support bubble around me however allows me to overcome these rough days and get back on track."
