The challenge…

“After a few years of ill health, I had piled on the weight and developed lots of unhealthy eating habits. I was being treated for high blood pressure with little results, and my HbA1c results showed as very high from a check-up with my GP.

Our support…

“Since joining Type 2 Diabetes Path to Remission (T2DR), I have had a complete change of mindset towards food. I have broken habits of a lifetime, snacking between meals, whereas I now have treats in moderation, and I understand the importance of a balanced diet.

“I have since become more active and use my time effectively to help fit exercise into my schedule. I walk around the training ground while watching my son at football, before, I used to stand and watch for an hour. I now use my lunch time at work to go for a walk instead of just sitting at my desk, and I am looking forward to getting back into the gym too.”

Recent results showed my HbA1c levels have reduced to 39 from 85 back in December, putting me into remission! Since making these changes, I have also got my blood pressure down to a healthy range and have finished the blood pressure medication I was on.

What happened…

“Since attending the sessions with T2DR, I have lost nearly six stone, since I was diagnosed with diabetes at the end of last year. I still have a bit to lose, but I look and feel much better, and I have more energy for doing things with my family. I was able to go and try suits on at the weekend, off the peg too, which I enjoyed, and has got me looking forward to wearing my suit for my wedding in October!

“T2DR has given me a second chance at life. I have seen my dad suffer for many years with diabetes and now I can hopefully stay in remission for as long as possible. The programme has helped me to create a healthy relationship with food, encouraging me to cook more. I have proved to myself how mentally strong I am, as it has not been easy, but I took it one day at a time and days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months and now I am reaping the results of that effort!”
