Today is World Diabetes Day 2022. We are encouraging everyone to #RewriteTheStory with Diabetes UK by proactively looking out for the signs of Type 2 diabetes.

For those who have been identified as at risk of Type 2 diabetes, our delivery of Healthier You: the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme is helping them make sustainable healthy improvements to reduce their chances of developing their disease.

Article - Dennis for World Diabetes Day 2022

Dennis was referred to the Heathier You by his GP after they discovered high levels of HBA1C and glucose during a routine blood test.

Determined to improve his health, Dennis took part in the Healthier You sessions and learnt about fats, sugars, and how to proportion meals in an effective way to feel fuller for longer.

The course provide insight into understanding the body and its needs, and knowing how to better food shop and eat well.

Dennis told us:

Without my amazing Healthier You Health Coach from Reed Wellbeing, I would not have achieved my goals. As well as for diabetes prevention it has also helped for the other conditions which I have - curvature of the spine and COPD, which have both improved due to weight loss and exercise.   This has been a life changing experience for me, my quality of life has greatly improved, so I thank you all!

Dennis has now completed the programme with excellent results - he has significantly improved his fitness levels and lost a total of 15.9kg in weight to reduce his risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Being diagnosed early is so important for all types of diabetes. It can save lives, prevent a medical emergency, and reduce the risk of life-changing complications later.

Someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes. Together, we have the power to #RewriteTheStory for everyone who will be diagnosed in the future – it could even be the story of someone you love.
