Leeds: How healthy is your heart?

Leeds: How healthy is your heart?

This February, as Valentine’s Day brings the inevitable annual onslaught of all things heart-shaped, it’s likely you’ll be thinking about your heart more than usual.

But whatever the status of your love life, matters of the heart should be considered all year round. One You Leeds – Leeds’s free healthy lifestyle service – is asking all Leeds residents: “How healthy is your heart?”

Far beyond any romantic trials and tribulations, One You Leeds’s ‘5 Ways to a Healthy Heart’ campaign is challenging people to increase the health of their hearts by following these five steps:

1. Be smoke free Not smoking is the best thing you can do for your heart and your health

2. Drink less Keeping under 14 units per week will benefit your health and energy levels

3. Be more active By keeping active for 30 minutes on most days, you can reduce your risk of stroke or heart disease by 35%

4. Eat more healthily Eating healthily can prevent problems with blood pressure and cholesterol

5. Manage your weight By losing just 5-10% of your weight, you will reduce the strain on your heart.

Whatever your age, doing any of the above steps can only be beneficial to the health of your heart – and to your health in general. But do you know what your heart age is?

You can find out how healthy your heart is by visiting oneyouleeds.co.uk/heart-age-tool – by answering a few simple questions, you’ll get a clearer picture of what your heart age is, and how you can take action to make it younger and healthier.

But you don’t have to do it alone.
